    Tuberculosis Testing

    You will need to obtain an IOM Medical Certificate confirming that you are free from active tuberculosis (TB) if you are aged 11 and over and applying for a visa to travel to the United Kingdom with the intention of staying for longer than six months.

    The following will NOT be required to obtain a certificate: diplomatic passport holders travelling on official business or on a posting to the UK, those who qualify for an exempt visa, those applying for a certificate of entitlement, returning residents and children under 11 years of age.

    IOM Working hours:
    Monday - Friday: 08:00 - 17:00 Hrs. (except National Holidays)

    Medical examinations can be scheduled during these working hours, and will be carried out at the IOM office within the Nairobi Hospital Compound, as directed above.

    Required Documents:
    Valid passport / a UNHCR registration document; and
    Two recent passport size photos (not older than 6 months at the time of examination).
    Payment:
    Payment must be made prior to the medical examination in cash (Kenyan shillings) at the CFC bank (Upper Hill branch only), which is situated at the Upper Hill Medical Centre, 100 metres from Nairobi Hospital.
    The fee is Ksh 4,800 (Kenyan shillings four thousand eight hundred only) per person.

    You will be required by CFC Bank to fill out an IOM official payment coupon before depositing your payment. This will serve as your proof of payment, which you should bring to the IOM office in Nairobi Hospital.

    Step-by-step Procedures:
    Medical examinations will normally be booked daily from 8:30 am to 3 pm.
    Appointments should only be made by telephone.
    Payment should be made first at the CFC bank only at Upper Hill branch before coming to the IOM office for medical examinations.
    The initial examination will comprise of a chest x-ray in 99% of cases.
    In most cases, the initial examination will take 30-45 minutes.
    Additional diagnostic procedures (sputum smears and cultures) may apply in case of abnormal findings and may take up to three (3) additional days after the initial examination for sputum smears and up to eight (8) weeks (for sputum cultures).
    An IOM Medical Certificate will be issued on the day of the examination, latest by 5 pm, daily, Monday to Friday at the IOM Office in the Nairobi Hospital.
    Please note that female applicants of childbearing age will be requested to undergo a pregnancy test, in case there is uncertainity.
